Peter Lee Spataro (1942-2014) was an American Realist landscape painter and teacher. He was born on January 23, 1942 in Grandville, NY to manager Peter M Spataro (1910-1968) and his wife Marietta J (Cary) Spataro (1920-2008).

Spataro graduated from Barrington College, RI, and studied for five years under landscape watercolor artist Edgar Albert Whitney (1891-1987) in New York, NY (likely at Pratt). While in school in New York he met his wife Sandra Diane (Stoddard) Spataro and married April 15, 1967 in Utica, NY.

The artist began his teaching career at L G Nourse Elementary School, Norton, MA. Spataro worked at Plymouth River Elementary School and East School, Hingham, MA, in the 1990s and ran an art program for the inmates at Massachusetts Department of Correction, MA for seven years. While based in and around Massachusetts he taught watercolor workshops around the country.

During Spataro’s life he painted many locations including: Grandville, NY, Utica, NY, Whitinsville, MA, Hanover, MA, North Miami Beach, FL, Miami, FL, Tampa, FL, Hingham, MA, Hanson, MA, Gloucester, MA, Rockport, MA, Sutton, MA, Sterling, MA, Barre, MA ; Upton, MA, Millbury, MA, VT, ME and Naples, FL.

His work was published in Better Homes and Gardens and American Artist magazine. He was featured in The best of watercolor by Betty Lou Schlemm and Thomas Nicholas Sr and in Watercolor91 (1991). Spataro painted room murals for Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Miami and The Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach, FL.

He was a member of Salmagundi Club, New York, NY, Scituate Arts Association Gallery, Boston, MA, Allied Artists of America, New York, NY, Academic Artists Association, Springfield, MA, New England Watercolor Society, Boston, MA, The North Shore Art Association, Gloucester, MA, The Rockport Art Association, Rockport, MA, The Miami Watercolor Society, Miami, FL, Florida Watercolor Societies, Miami, FL, and the Hudson Valley Art Association.
