Biography:
Painter Ellen Buselli uses her collection of antique vases, old Roman glass, American Arts & Crafts pottery, pueblo pottery, and other artifacts for subject matter in her still-life and floral paintings. Her careful observation of chiaroscuro, form, edges, values, color, and textures evoke a calm classical order, and a sense of timelessness in her work.
After study at the Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy, and Cornell University (BFA ), Buselli attended classes at the Art Students League and Grand Central Atelier in New York City.
Her north light studio in an old NYC brownstone built in 1890 mirrors her love of the last-turn-of-the-century painters and traditional art practices. Painting from life is the ultimate challenge and always captivating for Buselli.
Her inspiration and influences include the paintings of Vermeer ,Chardin, Fantin La Tour, Emil Carlsen, John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, Giorgio Morandi, Walter Murch, Williard Metcalf and others.
Buselli’s paintings have been accepted to numerous national juried and museum exhibitions winning awards at many of them. She has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the country, and is in many private collections.
Buselli has collected recognition and awards from the Art Renewal Center. The Portrait Society of America , Butler Museum of American Art, Oil Painters of America ( Best Still Life Award, Winsor & Newton Award of Excellence, Richeson Silver Brush Award) , International Artists Magazine ( several feature articles), American Artist Magazine ( Cover and Feature), The Artist’s Magazine ( Cover and Feature), Plein Air Magazine Salons ( Best Building, Best Floral), BoldBrush Award, American Women Artists ( Best in Show) , the National Academy of Design, the Salmagundi Club, and many other venues.
