SCNY Annual Non-Members Painting & Sculpture Exhibition
Upper Gallery, August 8 - 19
Viewing Hours: 1-6pm Mon.-Fri., 1-5pm Sat. & Sun.

On August 8, 2011, the Salmagundi Club's Non-Members' Painting and Sculpture Exhibition will open to the public. Consisting of nearly 100 paintings and sculptures, this year's exhibition is incredibly strong-containing paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, pastel, and colored pencil, as well as sculptures in bronze, wood, stone, relief, and mixed media.

"We are fortunate to have almost a dozen spectacular portraits this year," notes Club President Claudia Seymour. "The over 500 images submitted to us included absolutely terrific work, and the process of limiting the show to fit into our Gallery was very difficult." In addition to several novelty pieces, there are stunning landscapes in all seasons, effective cityscapes, and absolutely beautiful still lifes. Vice President Robert Pillsbury commented, "I don't envy the Judges of Selection having to choose pieces to which to give awards, because the work this year is some of the strongest we've ever had."

Included among the sculptural works is something entirely new-a work comprising two pieces that hangs from but stands clear of the Gallery wall, neither a relief nor a mixed media creation. "We have never had anything like this," mentioned Mr. Pillsbury, "and it was a challenge to hang it appropriately." The exhibition is open to the public daily in the Club's Upper Gallery at 47 Fifth Avenue.
