My work in stone carving began in college. It was there I was encouraged to travel to Italy to study marble carving under Milo Lazaravic in Pietrasanta through Columbia University. My love of stone, and Italy was sealed. When I returned from Italy, I continued to work in stone at the New School, NYC with Phillip Pavia and at the School of Visual Arts, NYC with Barbara Segal. I have been most fortunate to have studied under some very talented sculptors who have shared with me their knowledge and the encouragement to grow in this medium. Creating each sculpture, from selecting the stone to mounting for presentation, is a time consuming process. My gratification comes from the discovery of what is within the stone as I carve. Seeing the piece evolve and emerge from the stone as a finished work of art is both amazing and rewarding. My style is realism with some impressionism mixed in for flare.
