Beginning May 29 and continuing to July 31, 2022 Salmagundi presents Ghosts of townhouse past : charcoal drawings by Charles S Chapman, eleven one-of-a-kind original charcoal drawings from the American illustrator.  The large scale works represent the talented illustrator’s ability to quickly capture a mood and moment in time from life.  The images are of the former sculptor John Roger’s townhouse studio on 12th street in New York which was rented by Salmagundi as our first official club house.  While the townhouse no longer exists, Chapman’s record of the location is a clear depiction of the club’s life in 1917.

The drawings were last partially on display at the club approximately twenty years ago.  Now all eleven drawings are being shown in one location for the first time in known memory.  The drawings were displayed as part of a temporary two week drawing show in Salmagundi’s parlor but proved to be such a hit that members of the club requested that the works stay up and be shown.
