About the Talk
In conversation: John Kevin Jones, actor
Join us for an afternoon in the Gilded Age and a proper cup of tea!
Join actor John Kevin Jones in conversation with Carl Raymond, host of The Gilded Gentleman history podcast for a look at the world of Charles Dickens and his beloved tale, A Christmas carol. John Kevin Jones has been starring annually in his own one-man adaptation of A Christmas carol performed in the 1832 parlors of the Merchant House Museum – a holiday tradition now in its 10th season.
The discussion will include the historical background of when, how, and why A Christmas carol was written, as well as what it meant to Victorian audiences. In addition, Carl and Kevin will discuss the process of adapting it for modern performance. As a special added treat for this Salmagundi event, Kevin will perform a very special reading of Clement Clarke Moore’s A visit from St. Nicholas guaranteed to put all into a holiday spirit.
There will be an interview and audience Q&A, followed by a reception featuring afternoon tea with sweet and savory treats.
