About the Event
Cecil Beaton is remembered as a photographer of royalty and celebrities, a Broadway and Hollywood costume designer extraordinaire, and a perennial figure in society and entertainment on both sides of the Atlantic from the 1920s through the 1970s. All of that glitter has left Beaton’s virtuoso achievements in the world of books a bit in the shadows.
In this illustrated talk, Coffee House member Bill Higgins will explore Beaton’s exuberant and inimitable place in the history of the book, as a writer, designer, graphic and typographical innovator, and illustrator.
About the Speaker
Bill Higgins is an historic preservationist and a book collector with a fascination for the elusive place where fine writing, bibliophily and the ideal of an artfully-lived life come together.
