About the Musicians
Born in New York City to parents who were fluent in Russian, Lynne Charnay has been delighting Broadway and Cabaret audiences for close to seven decades. She appeared on Broadway in five productions, including Julia, Jake and Uncle Joe in 1961, A Family Affair in 1962, The Sunday Man in 1964, The Inspector General in 1978, and with Jerry Herman in 1979’s The Grand Tour—and has appeared in more off Broadway and regional theater productions than can be listed here. Lynne currently appears annually at Don’t Tell Mama on her April 1st birthday, this year her 97th.
Rex Reed said of Lynne’s performances: “I never fail to learn something valuable in her presence.” As with Mabel Mercer, it’s as if she was there when the song was written.
Rolf Barnes — Pianist/Composer/Arranger/Conductor of shows for various corporations including IBM, Avon, Simon & Schuster, etc. He has been Musical Director/Pianist for such notables as Jack Benny, Jane Powell, Gretchen Wyler, among others. Barnes has appeared on camera as a pianist and did music production for Guiding Light, Another World, As the World Turns, Regis & Kathie Lee, and in June 1994 was Band Leader for Meals on Wheels Telethon on Cable TV. Mr. Barnes has performed over one thousand concerts for Young Audiences and the New York State Council on the Arts with the New York Percussion Trio. Rolf Barnes received his Bachelor of Music (Magna Cum Laude) from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio; and a Master of Arts in Music from Bennington College, where he held a Graduate Fellowship.
Also joining Lynne Charnay in song is actor-singer Frank Basile, who is equally at home in the worlds of opera, Broadway, TV and in business, as the CEO of Holmbase, INC, which he ran with his late wife, the actress, Celeste Holm.
