About the Talk

Join us for an afternoon in the Gilded Age and a proper cup of tea!

Join host Carl Raymond, host of The Gilded Gentleman history podcast, and author, journalist, and independent scholar, Eve M. Kahn, for a discussion of the life and work of Zoe Anderson Norris (1860-1914). Just after the 20th century began, Norris came to New York from Kentucky and the Kansas prairie to further her growing career as an author and journalist. Living on today’s Lower East Side, Zoe Anderson Norris wrote passionately and persuasively about the plight of New York’s poor and immigrant communities in many journals and publications including her own magazine, The East Side, which she self-published. Norris led an artistic and fascinating life and became known as the Queen of Bohemia before her early death in 1914. Eve Kahn’s in-depth research and deep insight is bringing the life of Zoe Anderson Norris to us today. Eve writes and lectures widely on Norris’ life and is working on a forthcoming biography of this forgotten – until now – Gilded Age woman.

There will be an interview and audience Q&A, followed by a reception featuring afternoon tea with sweet and savory treats.
