About the Panelists
James Scully is a native New Yorker who grew up in a home with three generations of family. James has created Breaking Walls, the docu-podcast on the history of U.S. network radio broadcasting, Burning Gotham, the audio soap opera set in 1835 New York City, and has directed, post-produced, adapted, and acted in scripted audio fiction productions, like the pilot for Frontier Gentleman, and the Frank Sinatra biopic musical And Then I Sing. He’s also a longtime SPERDVAC member, an actor with The Fireside Mystery Theatre, and a member of both the WGA Audio Alliance and The Podcast Academy.
Yhane Washington Smith was born and raised in the heart of the Pine Barrens in New Jersey – the “Blueberry Capital of the World” (apparently). After receiving her degree in History from Rutgers University and dreamed of writing film and TV, Yhane worked as a PA, AD, PC, AP for film, commercials and TV. In 2019, Yhane independently created Harlem Queen. Harlem Queen tells the unbelievable, but true story of Madame Stephanie St. Clair, “Policy Queen ” and “mobster” during the Harlem Renaissance. Yhane is an A’Lelia Bundles scholar at Columbia University and eleven time LMCC (Lower Manhattan Cultural Council) Grantee. Yhane is currently an AIR Amplify New Voices fellow.
Carl Raymond is the host of The Gilded Gentleman history podcast produced by Bowery Boys Media. Launched in 2021, the show has had more than 1.4 million downloads across all episodes and has listeners in 74 countries. He lectures regularly and has presented talks in both the United States and in Europe for such organizations as the Royal Oak Foundation, Historic Royal Palaces, the Metropolitan Opera Guild, the English-Speaking Union, the Jane Austen Society, Edith Wharton’s home The Mount and the National Arts Club.
Nick Messitte is a New York based writer / mastering engineer / mixing engineer / post engineer / composer / producer / musician. Nick owns and operates The Old Quarry, a one-stop mixing and mastering house for indie artists with a roster of clients including Peach Face, Micah E. Wood, Glorian, Super City, Soul Cannon, Pete Mancini, Leland Sundries, and more. He also works in podcasting, producing/mixing shows for companies such as Criminal Content, Voyage Media, iHeartRadio, WHYY, WBUR, OZY Media, and Disney ABC. His writing extends to music-technology blogs, music journalism, and more. He’s written for companies such as Forbes, iZotope, Sonic Scoop, Mastering the Mix, Sonarworks, and B&H Explora.
