About the Event
Join the Coffee House Club’s Urbane Conspirators and HIP Lit for an unforgettable night cloaked in Gothic suspense as mysteries abound in readings, conversation, music, and art. All in celebration of the paperback release of Joanna Margaret’s The Bequest with author Jessie Chaffee in conversation. The festivities will be punctuated with melodic renditions from Don Giovanni, starring singer Abby Hase.
Books will be available for sale and signing.

Special Guests
Joanna Margaret is a historian whose previous writing and scholarly work has focused on Florentine aristocrats in sixteenth-century France. She holds a PhD from the University of St. Andrews and an MFA from NYU, where Joyce Carol Oates served as her thesis advisor. The Bequest is her first novel.
Jessie Chaffee is the author of the novel Florence in Ecstasy, which was a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2017 and was translated into six languages. She received a Fulbright Grant to Italy to complete the novel, and she was the writer-in-residence at Florence University of the Arts. Her writing has been published in Literary Hub, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, and The Florentine, among others. She lives in New York City.
Abby Hase is a Manhattan based singer and actress. She recently performed at the Metropolitan Opera as a part of the Don Giovanni production, which premiered on May 5th. Abby also loves new music, and has participated in many readings, workshops, and recordings of new opera and musical theater demos for upcoming productions.
