Carol Vogel is known for her realistic and expressive paintings.
Paintings that dance with energy, color, and form with a remembrance for the classical style of the old masters best describe my interest and painting style.  I especially enjoy painting portraits of people and pets and bringing their spirit to life on canvas.  A love of collecting vintage glass and ceramics inspire my still life paintings along with a passion for travel to international locations.  My still life paintings reflect a mood and feeling often with lush pattern backgrounds, vivid color, and unusual combination of supports and collectible items.

Humanitarianism combined with a love of people inspire my pastel, oil, and pencil portraits. There is a depth of beauty in every face that reflects an inner soul. Capturing the inner soul is an inborn ability for me that is reflected in my representational and expressive portrait paintings.

In 1994 I moved to the foothills of Rappahannock County, Virginia to pursue a lifelong dream of living in the ambient countryside.  A river meandered through the lower meadows of my property making it a perfect site to paint the scenic landscape and figure in the landscape. Partnering with The Art League School of Alexandria, Va. I set up and hosted art workshops. In addition I held weekly classes and portrait and still life painting workshops in my teaching studio.  A few years later I starting hosting international painting workshops. In 2002 I moved back to the Washington, D.C. area to expand my art career and event business.

My extensive travel all over Europe, the South Pacific, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Alaska has served to inspire my still life, portrait, and figurative work.

I began teaching drawing and painting in 2008.  Right from the start I realized how much I enjoy sharing my art knowledge and skill with both young and adult students.  Seeing them grow and flourish in their artistic vision and accomplishment is a special joy of mine.
I work from my home studio located in Annapolis, Maryland.
