About the Event

the cover of the book women of myth.

In honor of Women’s History Month, The Coffee House Club’s Urbane Conspirators are celebrating Women of Myth. Sponsored by HIP Lit and guest hosted by the incomparable Lyrics, Lit & Liquor curator Amanda Miller, it’s sure to be a very special night of readings, book talk, and revelry.

In conversation with Liv Albert, WOMEN OF MYTH co-authors Jenny Williamson and Genn McMenemy (also the creators of the Ancient History Fangirl podcast) will introduce us to the amazing and diverse women in world mythology—from Deer Woman and Mami Wata to Amaterasu and Athena.

Complete with musical performances from Gawain and the Green Knight along with mingling over signature cocktails (inspired by Liv Albert’s Nectar of the Gods) and a delicious selection of dumplings from Vanessa’s, it will be an evening for the ages!

Copies of Women of Myth, just out from Simon & Schuster, will be available for sale and signing.

“This is a treasure trove of a book; beautifully illustrated and packed with rich and fascinating knowledge. It’s an absolute must for fans of all mythology; a joyful and diverse celebration of brilliant and formidable women.” —Jennifer Saint, author of Ariadne

Deity-inspired cocktail attire encouraged!

Featured Guests

Jenny Williamson is the co-author of Women of Myth. She is also a poet, writer, storyteller, freelance copywriter, and co-creator of the Ancient History Fangirl podcast. Jenny has always been obsessed with ancient history and mythology, and blends her love of both with her passion for writing and storytelling, making the stories she tells accessible for modern readers. She has published poetry in multiple journals online and in print, and has a chapbook—Collection of Flaws in a Black Dress—out with Finishing Line Press.

Genn McMenemy has been in love with mythology since before she could read. She and her brothers used to listen to their mother read myths and fairytales and dream about what life was like a long time ago. She has used her nerdy knowledge of mythology and ancient history to cocreate the Ancient History Fangirl podcast. Now she is a full-time award-winning freelance marketer, writer, researcher, and copywriter. Originally from the US, she now lives in the UK with her husband, Glen, and their tiny dog, Triss. She spends all of her free time traveling, visiting historical sites, and researching her next writing projects. Women of Myth is her first book.

Liv Albert is the author of Greek Mythology Handbook and Nectar of the Gods. She is the creator, host, and producer of the popular Greek and Roman mythology podcast, Let’s Talk About Myths, Baby! where she brings her modern perspective and her education in classical civilizations together to explore Greek myths from a casual, humorous perspective. Liv has a degree in classical civilizations and English literature from Concordia University in Montreal.

Alexia Antoniou and Mike O’Malley from Gawain and the Green Knight. Alexa, sitting, has short, wavy hair, a white shirt, and a black vest. Mike stands with his arm on Alexa's shoulder. He has a thin moustache, hair parted down the middle, and a blazer over a floral shirt.Gawain and the Green Knight are a Brooklyn-based folk duo, and a homemade valentine to that cute ghost in your attic. Made up of married couple Alexia Antoniou (guitar) and Mike O’Malley (Irish bouzouki), they’ve been performing together since 2018, singing about their affection for little human moments and their healthy fear of death. But, you know- in a catchy way. Follow them on Instagram @gawainandthegreenknight.

“Grim, sweet, elegant… Gawain and the Green Knight stand out from the indie folk crowd in the passion and panache they bring to their characters” – Merry-Go-Round Magazine
