Description of work:

Edward Loyal Field was a Tonalist landscape etcher and painter. Born in 1856, he studied art in Paris, France, under Charles Auguste Carolus Emile Duran, returning to the United States in 1882. He lived and worked in Manhattan but also spent time with his friend and fellow Salmagundian, John Francis Murphy at the Pakatakan art colony in New York’s Catskill mountains. This example of the artist’s work, it is one of his larger etchings.
