Biography:

Fred X Brownstein creates contemporary figurative sculpture in marble and bronze. Fred was born in 1946 in Greenville, Mississippi and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1970 from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Fred married Stella Ehrich in 1974 and the following year the couple moved to Italy where they lived for sixteen years until 1991. In Italy, Fred was accepted as an apprentice at the marble sculpture studio of Enzo Pasquini where he trained for four years.

From 1980-1984 Fred studied figure drawing with the Signorina Nerina Simi in Florence.

Since 1985 he has completed 12 public sculpture commissions.

Fred is a Fellow member of the National Sculpture Society and Professional member of the Stone Carvers Guild.
