Description of work:

Friedrich Jüngling was a German-American wood engraver and painter. He studied at the Art Students’ League of New York and was the founder of the American Society of Wood Engravers.

Jüngling championed a new American-style engraving which substituted short broken lines and dot stippling for the traditional long sweeping lines of metal printmaking.

In this engraving, Jüngling was able to capture the depth and range of light that made the original Kappes’ painting so luminescent.
