Biography:
Ranoosh Barclay has been painting from the age of 16, having begun her studies under a private teacher. She then continued her training at the Phoenix School and the National Academy and Art Student’s League, in the United States. She received 1st prize for her work in Phoenix. She also received 1st prize from the Art Student’s League. Her work there was exhibited in Canada, under the auspices of the London Museum. Ranoosh won first prize in both the 40th and 41st Annual Artists Ball, A.S.A.
While still a student, Ranoosh was commissioned to paint the portrait of the wife of Wallace Harrison (Designer/Architect of Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center and the United Nations). She has also painted portraits of several prominent Europeans.
Her artistry also finds expression through still life and landscape. She feels that “Human, nature and art are one”. She works directly from the subject and paints almost exclusively in plein-air. She feels that a short amount of time painting outdoors accomplishes so much more than many hours in the studio. “Art is not merely copying the subject or an exact replica of reality (a camera can accomplish that), but is how the artist responds to the subject.
Painting is creative. It expresses ideas and dreams based on reality. It is an expression of mind and spirit.”
