Biography:

Ranoosh Barclay began painting from the age of 16, having begun her studies under a private teacher. She then continued her training in the United States at the Phoenix School, the National Academy and Art Students League. In Art Students League she studied figure painting and portraiture with Frank Mason for four years. Mason emphasized light and atmospheric effect of the Old Masters. Learning and understanding the Old Masters is the foundation of fine art. She received 1st prize for her work in Phoenix School. She also received 1st prize from Art Students League. Her work there was exhibited in Canada under the auspices of the London Museum. Ranoosh won first prize in both the 40th and 41st Annual Artists Ball, A.S.A.

While still a student at Art Students League, Ranoosh was commissioned to paint the portrait of Ellen Hunt Harrison, wife of Wallace Harrison (Designer/Architect of Lincold Center, Rockefeller Center and the United Nations). She has also painted portraits of several prominent Europeans.

Her artistry also finds expression through still life and landscape painting. She feels that “Human, nature and art are one”. She works directly from the subject and paints almost exclusively in plein-air. She feels that a short amount of time painting outdoors accomplishes so much more than many hours in the studio. “Art is not merely copying the subject or an exact replica of reality (a camera can accomplish that), but is how the artist responds to the subject. Painting is creative. It expresses ideas and dreams based on reality. It is an expression of mind and spirit”.

She also appreciates French Impressionism and classical music.
