Biography:
Jim Molloy is an oil painter and a native of Long Island, NY. After many years of working in commercial and technical illustration, Jim decided to put away the computer, pick up the paint brush, and pursue painting. Jim is primarily self-taught, learning by studying the work of old masters and contemporary artists, visiting museums, reading books, and painting with fellow artists. He is particularly inspired by the works of Andrew Wyeth and Winslow Homer.
Jim’s work is primarily representational, while trying to find the abstract qualities within the scenes and objects that he depicts.
“I like to try to find and capture the beauty and simplicity of the world around us, and to express that through my work. If my paintings can provide someone with a place to escape from their everyday life, I have succeeded.”
Jim’s work has been on display in exhibitions and galleries on New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Maine, Florida and the Netherlands. His work is in private collections around the world and is part of the permanent collection of Stony Brook University Hospital.
