Biography:

Katie G. Whipple (b.1991) grew up in central Indiana. Katie attended the Grand Central Atelier from 2009-2013 where she studied academic painting. She has since been the recipient of many honors, including a purchase award for the Indiana State Museum’s permanent collection. Katie was the recipient of the 2013-2014 Alma Schapiro Prize, which sent her to the American Academy in Rome for three months to study the work of the Italian Renaissance. It was on this trip to Italy where Katie fell in love with painting flora, and has been happily devoted to capturing the ephemeral beauty of flowers ever since. Katie lives in Southampton, NY with her husband, artist Brendan Johnston, their one year old son Hewitt, and dog Theo.
