Biography:

Stefan Mackey lives in New York City, working from his home studio and studying at the Art Students League with renowned instructors. He is a member of the Salmagundi Club of NY, Art Students League, American Artists Professional League, and others.

Stefan paints still lifes, portraits, en plein air landscapes, and portraits from live models. His on-going quest to emulate the Old Masters incorporates extensive research into composition, design, anatomy, color theory, drawing, dynamic symmetry, the natural sciences, and classic materials and techniques. His artwork has earned numerous awards and recognitions.

Stefan makes his own paint from the finest European powder pigments, cooks mediums based on ancient recipes, and stretches surfaces using the finest linens.

His philosophy is best summed up by his belief in working from the ground up.
