About the Event

Cover of "Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies: How Doubting the Bard Became the Biggest Taboo in Literature" by Elizabeth Winkler.

A thrillingly provocative investigation into the Shakespeare authorship question, exploring how doubting that William Shakespeare wrote his plays became an act of blasphemy.

Author and journalist Elizabeth Winkler’s new book from Simon & Shuster (forthcoming May 9, 2023)—Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies—dares to tackle the Shakespeare Authorship Question, an inquiry that has been bouncing around for centuries. She tracks the trajectory of the question, why and how it has been repeatedly quashed, and lands on the larger questions of authority, responsibility, and integrity.

The evening will also feature actors Rik Walter (AEA) and Nick Bombicino (AEA).
