NEW YORK, West Village, New York (February 22, 2023) – Salmagundi is delighted to announce the LIbrary Sculpture Competition and Exhibition, which will run from February 5 to April 30, 2023, in honor of its 150th anniversary. The exhibition will showcase the remarkable work of renowned sculptor Heather Personett, who was awarded $10,000 USD to create a bronze bust of Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907), a former Salmagundi member.

Personett’s winning sculpture was highly regarded for its sensitivity, infusing a strong human quality into the characterization beyond other more photographic and literal presentations of the artist. The sculpture will be featured in the exhibition alongside her studies and maquette.

The Library Sculpture Competition and Exhibition will feature the works of the nine runners-up, who will display their maquettes in the Grand Stair Gallery at Salmagundi. These sculptures, which feature the likeness of prominent artists such as William Merritt Chase, Alphonse Maria Mucha, and NC Wyeth, will be available for sale at the sculptors’ discretion.

The competition was judged by a panel of distinguished jurors, including Salmagundi President Jacob Collins, Robbie Wraith, Alicia Ponzio, Robert Bodem, Donna Hassler, David Williams-Ellis, and Grzegorz Gwiazda.

“We are honored to celebrate the exceptional work of Heather Personett and the other talented sculptors who participated in this competition,” said Collins. “Their sculpture is a testament to the spirit of Salmagundi and our unwavering commitment to promoting the arts and supporting artists.”
