Dear Salmagundians,
Our 2021 spring auction will be held on April 19!
For over a hundred years our artists, supported by our generous patrons, have raised funds to support Salmagundi operations and upkeep for our landmark townhouse and magnificent gallery at 47 Fifth Avenue.
With the guidance of our chairman and professional auctioneer, Nick Dawes, we have managed to cut actual auctions from 6 yearly down to two while increasing total revenues. In addition, we now have more participation from all our artists including our very talented junior and scholarship group, several of whom provided works last auction that sold for over $1000.
During this challenging time it is more important than ever to support the auctions with works that will sell. Cityscapes are a constant best seller. Beautiful landscapes typically perform well along with seascapes, nocturnes, still lifes, figurative works, sculpture, and abstracts that are based on realism.
While no one can predict with certainty what will sell at a particular auction, it is certain that the works most likely to sell will be those works promoted by the artists themselves on social media and to their collectors. I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to promote your works on your social media links and newsletters. Patron members, please pass our auction announcements to your mailing lists and friends.
Spring auctions March 15-April 9, main gallery. The submission deadline of Monday Feb. 15th, approaching. Let’s all contribute to a new record breaking auction!
