Ikigai
(n.) a Japanese concept literally translates to “a reason for being”, “to enjoy the meaning of life” – passion, mission, purpose, something one lives for.
Anita Madeira, New York abstract expressionist, turns to gold sumi ink and mulberry paper for her latest series of gestural paintings. Her unruly subjects – pine trees, sweet peas, and those still-life classics: apples, oranges, and pears are captured with spontaneous imperfection, providing her the inspiration to “get up every morning”.
