About the Film
Join us for one of two delicious Friday night films this July! FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD!
Featuring Babette’s Feast (1987), winner of the 1988 OSCAR for best foreign film with English subtitles: Based on a story by Isak Dinesen, this highly acclaimed film is set in a late 19th century. In a remote, strictly religious and teetotaling Danish community, two elderly sisters, daughters of the late Pastor, take in a French refugee from the Franco-Prussian War as their cook/servant, Babette, who is also is a superb Parisian cook. On the occasion of the sisters’ late father’s 100th birthday, and in thanks for the family’s support over the years, she creates a lavish banquet (including turtle soup and fine wines). It both amazes and shocks the diners.
About the Summer Film Series
Are you looking for fun things to do this season? Movie dates are always a go-to option! Brought to you by the Salmagundi Program Committee, Club members Barbara Genco and Michael Rosenfeld will be hosting a carefully curated film series. This series is a chance for film enthusiasts to come together at the start of the weekend for a shared cinematic experience. All are welcome to participate in a casual conversation covering a variety of viewpoints.
The selection of films have been carefully curated based on their renown as old favorites, good reception, and have remained a source of timeless interest.
Come early to gather in the lower level of the Club and grab a beverage at the legendary Wiggins Bar. Screenings will begin promptly afterwards. After the film we will enjoy a follow-up dinner and conversation about the film in the Salmagundi Club dining room.
