About the Event

Coffee House Club invites the Executive Director of the Greenwich Village organization Village Preservation to discuss his work with the Gilded Gentleman.

A man in a gray suit and flat cap leans against a brick wall on a city sidewalk, with trees and buildings in the background.

Join Village Preservation Executive Director Andrew Berman in conversation with the Gilded Gentleman, Carl Raymond, for a lively exploration of historic preservation in New York City—its achievements, its continuing challenges, and its essential role in protecting the character of Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo. Berman has led Village Preservation since 2002, spearheading successful efforts to secure landmark designation for more than 1,250 buildings, including sites connected to LGBTQ+, African American, immigrant, artistic, and countercultural history. A lifelong New Yorker and architectural historian, he has also worked extensively in tenant, housing, and cultural advocacy.
