Ticketed attendees are also invited to join us for an a la carte dinner after the discussion. No reservation for dinner required separately! About the Book
Jane Whitefield helps people disappear. Fearing for their lives, fleeing dangerous situations, her clients come to her when they need to vanish completely—to assume a new identity and establish a new life somewhere they won’t be found. And when people are desperate enough to need her services, they come to the old house in rural western New York where Jane was raised to begin their escape.
It’s there that, one spring night, Jane finds a young woman fresh from LA with a whole lot of trouble behind her. After she cheated on her boyfriend, he dragged her to the home of the offending man and made her watch as he killed him. She testified against the boyfriend, but a bribed jury acquitted him, and now he’s free and trying to find and kill her.
About the Author
Thomas Edmund Perry was born in Tonawanda, New York, on August 7, 1947. He received a B.A. from Cornell University in 1969 and his Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Rochester in 1974. He worked as a laborer, maintenance man, commercial fisherman, weapons mechanic, university administrator and teacher, as well as a television writer and producer (Simon & Simon, 21 Jump Street, Star Trek: The Next Generation). Through December 2024, Perry published 31 novels.
Perry’s work covered a variety of fictional suspense starting with The Butcher’s Boy, which received a 1983 Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best First Novel,[1] followed by Metzger’s Dog, Big Fish, Island, and Sleeping Dogs. He then launched the critically acclaimed Jane Whitefield series: Vanishing Act (chosen as one of the “100 Favorite Mysteries of the Century” by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association), Dance for the Dead, Shadow Woman, The Face Changers, Blood Money, Runner, and Poison Flower.
About the Mystery Book Club
Since 2013, the Mystery book club has met monthly with the exception of June and July. The books discussed are primarily mystery novels. Some memorable authors explored have included Agatha Christie, Lee Child, Louise Penny and Ruth Rendell.
Books are selected based on geographic or historical interest, such as works by author Donna Leon whose crime novels are set in Venice, Italy and Peter Tremayne, Celtic scholar and historian whose focus is 7th century Ireland. We have had new authors discuss their writings including Paul Paradise, who writes about murder, trademark counterfeiting, and product piracy and Radha Vatsal, award winning mystery writer whose books center around a young female reporter in New York City during the 1910’s.
