Description of work:
Nocturne of canal in Bruges, Belgium
In 1886, Eaton made his first trip abroad with artist friends Ben Foster and Leonard Ochtman, visiting France, Belgium, Holland and London. The low countries, particularly Holland Belgium, struck a chord with the artist, becoming the focus of his annual sojourns around the turn of the twentieth century. On these trips the primary subject of his works were the picturesque region of Bruges, Belgium, and its surrounding countryside, as well as the villages of Sluis, in Holland, and Knokke in Belgium.
