Biography:

Daniel Jones is a third generation California based painter who grew up in a family of working artists, “I was surrounded by art in progress, the smell of wet paint and turpentine, always encouraged to draw or just sit and observe”  Early years were spent in or on the ocean,  so it wasn’t a major leap for Daniel to serve as a Boatswain’s Mate in the Coast Guard. He then pursued a degree in Horticulture and worked as a greenhouse grower of tropical plants for most of his career. Although his formal career training was in agriculture, he always knew that he ultimately would return to his passion for painting.

Daniel’s time and experiences in the Coast Guard led full circle to his becoming an artist with the Coast Guard Art Program, which a few years later influenced his interest in becoming an artist member in the Salmagundi Club. 

Daniel describes his work as atmospheric in nature, “I try to capture the feeling of calm and mood. I especially am drawn to fleeting glimpses of a scene… and try to get them down right away. I often draw what I see but will then try to simplify to capture the essence of what I’m feeling about the scene…composition, colors and values – all working against and in harmony with each other.”
