Biography:
Denis Byrd was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a graduate of the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. He first studied painting under painter Charles Young Walls, who has been a major influence on Denis’ artistic development. Denis considers himself a lifelong learner and is constantly
studying the artists of the past and applying those lessons to his work. He finds inspiration in the works of Sargent, NC Wyeth, and William Merritt Chase.
After a trip to New Zealand in 2007, Denis began painting landscapes and exploring plein air painting. This decision transformed him as an artist and created a passion for landscape conservation. After moving to North Carolina, Denis became enamored with the diverse scenery. This love for the land and history of North Carolina provides constant inspiration. The Blue Ridge mountains are Denis’ favorite subjects to paint as they provide a constant source of inspiration.
Denis’ work has been exhibited in galleries across the Southeast as well as The OPOMAC in Graham, Texas and the Salmagundi Club in NY, NY. In addition to being a painter, Denis is a teacher, podcaster, and an avid amateur historian.
