NEW YORK, West Village, New York (February 14, 2023) – Salmagundi is proud to present Drawings by Albert Lorey Groll (1866-1952) [RA 1900-1952], a new exhibition of the artist’s pen and ink drawings created during the late 1880s. This unique exhibition features a selection of Groll’s drawings, showcasing his exceptional skill and versatility in a medium that is often overlooked in his oeuvre.
As a resident artist member of the Salmagundi Club from 1900 to 1952, Groll was an integral part of the Club’s artistic community, and his legacy is still felt to this day. The permanent art collection of the Salmagundi contains a small cache of works by the artist, as well as several pieces depicting the artist by fellow Salmagundians.
The Drawings by Albert Lorey Groll (1866-1952) [RA 1900-1952] exhibition will highlight the artist’s mastery of pen and ink, including hand-drawn letterforms, animal drawings, and genre illustrations for various publications. Groll is most known today for his impressionist landscapes. Visitors will have the opportunity to see Groll’s work up close and appreciate the intricate detail and careful composition of each piece.
“We are thrilled to host Drawings by Albert Lorey Groll (1866-1952) [RA 1900-1952] at Salmagundi and celebrate the exceptional work of this talented artist,” said William “Bill” Eric Indursky, the exhibition’s curator. “Groll’s pen and ink drawings offer a glimpse into his artistic process and demonstrate the unique talent that made him such an important figure in the American art world.”
