Biography:

Elizabeth Adams-Jones is a figurative painter in New York City. Her large scale portrait paintings, reminiscent of a dramatic film still, emphasize the emotional posture of the subject. In addition to her studio work, Ms. Adams-Jones does commission portrait work and teaches drawing and painting at the Art Students League of New York and The Art Center New York.

Liz is a figurative painter based in Paris, France. A native of Marietta, GA, she received her BFA in Drawing and Painting at Georgia State University. She relocated to NYC to continue her studies at the Art Students League and the National Academy School of Fine Arts where she studied life drawing and painting. She worked as a teacher’s assistant for many of her classes and was awarded work-study and merit based scholarships. Liz was a winner of the Newington Cropsey Foundation for the Arts Scholarship Program in Florence, Italy in 2008. She spent a summer studying Renaissance Art History at Studio Art Center International and working in her studio space. She also had the opportunity to attend a Gross Anatomy Course at Drexel University in Philadelphia 2009 where she was able to study and draw human anatomy. In 2015 Liz was a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields grant for figurative artists. She was also awarded a residency Vytlacil in Sparkill, NY where she continued work on her large scale portraits.

In 2016 Liz was invited to be a part of Heritage Space “Month in Arts” Residency in Hanoi, Vietnam where she taught portrait workshops and painted Vietnamese landscapes as part of a group exhibition of international artists.

She began writing poetry in July 2017, studying with poets Kate Angus, Geoffrey Nutter and Jay Desphande. Poetry is becoming an important part of her creative process as she is merging themes of her visual work with her poems. Her poems have been published in Curlew Quarterly, Issue 4 and POST(Stranger). Liz has participated in art shows in NYC and across the US as well as Canada, Vietnam and France. Her works have been published in American Artist’s Drawing Magazine, North Light Art Book’s Strokes of Genius 5: Composition and Manifest INPA 6. She has taught classes at The Art Students League and The Art Center NY. In 2020, Liz relocated to Paris, France where she was awarded a Talent Visa based on her artistic achievement. She works out of a studio in the 12th arrondissement and continues to exhibit her work. In addition, she takes portrait commissions and teaches an Online Mentorship program.
