Emily Mintz is a science and conservation focused painter, sculptor, and illustrator based in New York. She works full time as an exhibit artist for the Wildlife Conservation Society based at the Bronx Zoo and taught animal drawing at the American Museum of Natural History until 2020. Her work centers around the intersection between the natural sciences and the human condition, trying to stress the lasting effects humanity and nature have upon one another. She’s studied studio art at Bennington College and has a BFA from Queens College.
I try to illustrate the duality of physical mortality and anthropological immortality. I really just want to show the potential beauty in the macabre and sorrowful, that not all is lost after death, just living on in a different way.
