Inge Heus is a former Salmagundi member, now at age 92 and living in Tudor City NYC. Her paintings were a favorite at the Salmagundi Auctions in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Inge is also an experienced illustrator, as were many Salmagundi members in years past.  Inge was one of the first women accepted into the Salmagundi Club in the 1970s when membership first opened to female artists. She painted beautiful watercolor paintings of flowers, landscapes and cityscapes. She was also a member of the Catherine Lorillard Art Club.

Inge L (Jannen) Heus (1929-2023) [RA 1978-2022] was an American Realist floral and landscape watercolor painter born on January 5, 1929 in New York, NY to John “Jonny” Gustav Jannen (1893-1980) and Eike Henriette Johannen (1898-?).  Heus had two brothers, Karl Theodore Jannen (1919-1981) and Gerhardt Jannen (1922-1940) and one sister Alfreda Jannen (1925-?).  She married Raymond John Heus (1922-?) on January 26, 1962 in Brookhaven, NY.

Heus studied business at Adelphi University graduating with a bachelor of business administration before studying art.  She trained in art at the Art Students’ League of New York, New York, NY, Parsons School of Design, New York, NY, New York University, New York, NY and the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY.

Inge was taught by several artists including: Samuel Leitman (1908-1981), Mario Ruben Cooper (1905-1995), whom she was a monitor for at the artist at the Art Students’ League of New York, New York, NY, Edgar Albert Whitney (1891-1987), Ruth Baderian (1927-2010) and Carl Norman Molno (1926-2000).

She worked for First Boston Corporation as a legal assistant and secretary.

Heus belonged to several groups including Salmagundi, New York, NY, as a resident artist from 1978-2022 where she served on the curator’s committee, the American Association of University Women, New York, NY, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, New York, NY, serving as corresponding secretary, the Art Students’ League of New York, New York, NY, as a monitor, the Appalachian Mountain Club, Boston, MA, American Management Association and Guild Hall Artists, East Hampton, NY.
