Biography:

In 1982, Keelty received a BFA from the College of Visual and Preforming Arts, Syracuse University, NY. While always creaing art part-time, Keelty enjoyed a successful career in advertising and marketing for over 25 years, before pursuing her passion for fine art full-time.

To receive immersive classical training in anatomy and portraiture, as well as focus more intensely on still life and landscape (her favorite genres,) Keelty attended the renown Schuler School of Fine Arts, graduating from the four-year postgrad program in 2007.  Her mentor, Ann Schuler, taught Keelty to embrace Classical Realism: hand grinding pigments with black oil, using Maroger medium, only painting from life, and perfecting her compositions on canvas in order to achieve powerful, contrastive results. Keelty regularly strengthens her craft by taking classes at the Art Student’s League in NYC and attends national workshops and paint-outs. Comfortable with most materials and media, Keelty is most passionate about oil and sculpture.

In recent years, Keelty’s style has evolved – becoming looser- more dynamic and abstract. Her work still possesses the luminosity and depth that is so characteristic of the old masters, but now it exudes a contemporary freshness.
