Biography:
I spent my childhood in the Hudson River Valley and on the south shore of Long Island, and as a Connecticut resident for the past 33 years I focus on painting landscapes of local scenes of New England and the East Coast in oil and pastel. I enjoy plein air painting as well as studio work from life, field sketches and photo references.
I started pastel painting in the fall of 2001. Although largely self-taught, I have had the privilege of studying with such accomplished pastel painters as Doug Dawson, Christine Debrosky, Albert Handell, Stanley Maltzman, Susan Ogilvie, Richard McKinley, and Bob Rohm. I am a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and serve on its Board of Governors; a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society; an Artist Member of the Salmagundi Club of New York; and a member of Allied Artists of America and Audubon Artists.
I show my work in galleries and national exhibitions, and my paintings may be found in private collections in the US as well as England and Australia. My work was included in Best of America Pastel Artists – Volume II (2009), Best of Artists & Artisans/Kennedy Publishing, and I received an Honorable Mention in the Abstract/Non-Objective Category of The Pastel Journal’s 12th Annual Pastel 100 competition for my painting “Last Straw.” I am an active member of several local art organizations in New York and Connecticut, and paint in oil with the High Street Painters in Brattleboro, VT.
I was honored to have my painting “Dreaming of Del Mar” included in the Taiwan Pastel Society International Invitational Exhibition which was held at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Republic of Taiwan, in May 2014.
