Biography:
Lauren’s first plein air competition was Paint Annapolis in 2008, where she was awarded Best in Show. Since then she has been invited to paint in Plein Air-Easton, Sonoma Plein Air, Wayne Plein Air, Cranford Paint the Town, and for North Bennington Plein Air, where she was awarded the First Place award in 2011. She finds plein air events to be a great adventure, forcing her to paint a variety of subjects, and challenging her to paint with acumen.
After graduating from Boston College, Lauren pursued the arts in tandem with a 15-year career in technology. At night, she completed the basic studios at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
In 2001, Lauren devoted herself to raising her daughters and enrolled in a class with John Phillip Osborne at the Ridgewood Art Institute. Using a classical methodology and the “prismatic palette,” she inherited a tradition from Osborne that has its origins in the French Barbizon School, and in American painters such as Frank Vincent DuMond who studied in Europe at 19th century ateliers and academies.
The artist’s influences are her teacher John Phillip Osborne, and her longtime mentor John C. Traynor, two great painters with New Jersey roots. Her favorite historical artwork ranges from the floral paintings of Henri Fantin-Latour, to the spirit-inspired, late-period paintings of George Inness, the Maine seascapes of Winslow Homer, and anything drawn by cartoonist George Herriman.
The artist is an award-winning, exhibiting member of the Salmagundi Club, an artist member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, and an associate member of the Oil Painters of America.
