Biography:
“As a child in Omaha, Nebraska, I had an experience in a gallery that changed my life. My mother signed me up for an art class at the Jocelyn Museum and that’s when I first saw the sculpture of the Little Dancer of Fourteen Years by Edgar Degas. She gave off confidence, passion, dedication, energy that I found attractive.
It gave me the feeling of hope. She knew what she was doing. She knew what she wanted. And she knew how to achieve her goals.
“The sculpture was a merge of mixed media, skills and training. Looking at this piece today, I would compare it to a modern day opera where all the skills come together at once to create a magical experience.
“The Little Dancer inspired me. I too wanted to express myself through various mediums and genres.
“Later, I found out that Degas created this sculpture with a very different interpretation of women, but by then, it didn’t matter. The inspiration had taken hold.
As I create, I think about purpose and cultural significance. My intention is to draw in the viewer and create an interactive experience.
Is there something that has inspired you? A piece of artwork? A piece of music? A building? A day that you wish would never end…?”
