Nick is an American artist. He was first introduced to drawing and painting by his mother, Jocelyn Sandor Urban (American, b. 1957), an animal portrait artist and landscape painter. Growing up, Nick spent long hours in her studio practicing drawing and receiving valuable instruction.
Throughout school, Nick always stayed enrolled in art classes. He gained experience representing various mechanical subjects in graphite while studying Civil Engineering and Architecture at Lehigh University. His surroundings in eastern Pennsylvania inspired an interest in industrial subjects.
In 2018, while living in Omaha, Nebraska for work, he began practicing film photography after receiving a David Plowden (American, b. 1932) book as a gift. Nick enjoys road trips exploring the American landscape and documenting everyday scenes in black and white. A few years later, while pursuing his M.B.A. at Carnegie Mellon University, Nick photographed the Pittsburgh area extensively and learned to process film and make prints through a class at the College of Fine Arts.
In 2021, Nick took up plein air oil painting. As with photography, he finds painting inspiration almost anywhere and enjoys rendering a wide variety of subjects. He regularly visits Central Park to paint.
Nick’s wife and parents are fervent supporters of his artistic interests, and in 2021 they encouraged him to display and market his work via an online gallery – www.nickurbanart.com.
