The artist describes:

Genesis, the earliest piece, delves into the shared wound of humanity and nature, revealing the power that emerges from pain. The octopus, guided by lunar intuition, embodies adaptability and the wisdom to navigate darkness, gesturing toward renewal. This piece also addresses the historical expropriation of women’s bodies and knowledge, framing chaos as a precursor to creation.

Building on these themes, The Birth of Venuso reinterprets Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, challenging traditional representations of women in art. Classical oil painting often frames the female nude as a passive vision, defined by how she is perceived. Here, I subvert that dynamic, allowing the figure to reclaim her presence and agency.

Wake Up deepens my exploration of transformation, focusing on the tension between consciousness and unseen forces. A joyful, mischievous woman embodies primal energy, using the tail of a rainbow serpent—symbolizing change—to nudge the boundaries of awareness. The serpent’s flight and the out-of-scale bird, a guardian of liminal spaces, reflect the delicate balance between the familiar and the pull toward awakening.

Finally, Skullpture I: The Spirit of Hope shifts my practice from depiction to material embodiment. Inspired by Byung-Chul Han’s reflections on hope, this piece intertwines an aged skull with earth, plants and mushrooms transforming decay into regeneration. Rather than an endpoint, the skull becomes fertile ground for life, revealing how fragility and
endurance coexist, and how the unknown holds the promise of new beginnings.”
