Statement from the Artist:
This oil from 2002 was made at the time one of my largest explorations of cityscapes and was one of my first snow scenes. It's a city sidewalk after a snowstorm, the sun breaking through the clouds in the upper left. The narrowing perspective and distant figure interested me--human presence in a natural setting.
My more recent cityscapes have continued to explore contrasts. My interest is in contrasting natural forms--trees, foliage, stone--with the many man-made forms we see every day. The visual dance between the chaos of nature and the relentless linearity of human work commands attention.
