Statement from the Artist:

The first painting of the second pair (1976) is a very early "serious" geometric type piece where I had no idea where I was going as a painter, or what I could ever achieve, and had a difficult time describing my emotional response to the natural world, which came a bit later. This gave me the chance to learn that painting, like life, is neither black nor white, but always nuanced and never the same for me. I live by that now in all my work.... status quo, and style, are my constant detractors from where my instincts tell me to go. The Current Nocturne should speak well of the distance I've come from simple geometry.
