Statement from the Artist:

"Acadia" was taken with a twin lens reflex camera and color film in 1982, "Videy Island" in 2026 with a pinhole camera with low speed black and white film. I have always loved taking images of scenic landscapes, especially on the water, but this variation helped me to discover new areas of photography with a medium format pinhole camera.

When I was studying painting, I found that I was attracted to making images that could be considered semi-abstract. I feel that this has eventually carried over to my photography when experimenting with pinhole images. The image cannot be totally predicted at the time of taking it, but the less than realistic nature and the unpredictability of the result is a new experience.

The subject and the dimensions are similar but I am intrigued by the semi abstract possibilities of pinhole work. This is intriguing to me as it may help to explore the boundaries between realism and abstraction, or the borderline between them.
