Biography:

William Jobson is a New York City raised artist.
Not formally educated in Fine Art, he has a life-long passion for drawing and painting from an early age in a simple working class Bronx upbringing.

With a degree from F.I.T. in Advertising Design, Bill entered the field of graphic design, Art Directing at publishing companies and leading a Creative Department at a small Advertising Agency and then Creative Director of Marketing in Periodical Publishing.
Along the way, he continued developing painting skills, participating in local exhibits and all the while compiling sketches, studies and photographic reference for concepts and projects being developed.

His first Salmagundi entry was “Williamsburg” which garnered high acclaim. Following submissions at SCNY were well received, earning several awards.

Becoming a Salmagundi resident artist member in 2022 allowed more engagement with the Club. Bill became a board member in 2024 as First Vice President and later held the position of President. His objective of creating more opportunities for all artists led to the largest schedule of exhibitions in years.

“We are drawn to contrasts. I strive for strong contrasts in my work. Not just of light and shadow or the presence and absence of shapes in space, but also the contrast of past and present. Of motion and stillness. Warmth and cold. In New York, the main location of my inspiration, these contrasts continually present themselves to me.”
