Biography:
Lolly Shera is a contemporary American landscape painter whose work captures the emotional essence of place through layered color, atmosphere, and movement. Her luminous oil paintings reflect both direct observation and personal memory, inviting viewers into a quiet, contemplative encounter with nature. Influenced by the Masters and the American Tonalism movement, as well as plein air traditions, Shera’s paintings emerge through layered glazes of transparent oil, evoking a sense of atmosphere, light, and the ephemeral quality of time in the landscape.
She studied at the Landscape Atelier with master artist Deborah Paris and at the Georgetown Atelier with Tenaya Sims, and has furthered her training with notable American painters including David Leffel, Robert Liberace, and Scott Christensen. Her work has been exhibited nationally and recognized with honors from juried exhibitions at institutions including the Salmagundi Club, Oil Painters of America, the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society, the Clymer Museum, and Plein Air Washington Artists.
Shera is an artist member of the historic Salmagundi Club in New York City. Her paintings and studio were recently featured in Where Women Create magazine (2024, Issue #29), and her work is included in the technique book Elements of Oil Landscape Painting by Suzanne Brooker (Watson-Guptill). She lives and paints in Western Washington.
