– “Carlsen became a member of the Salmagundi Club in 1903 and showed for the first time in 1904 at their annual member exhibition from February 15-27. In his first exhibition with the club he won the second Inness prize ($100) for his painting Still life with copper pan. The work is now part of the club’s permanent collection. Carlsen showed at many of the club’s annual exhibitions, created mugs for the club’s benefit, donated a paint palette for their collection and even served as president from 1919-1920.” ECA
