Biography:

Tom Healy is a writer and educator. He is the author of three books of poetry, Velvet, Animal Spirits and What the Right Hand Knows, which was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Lambda Literary Award. Tom is the chair of O, Miami and serves on the boards of PEN America, The Bass Museum and The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. He is a juror for the Gotham Book Prize and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Under President Barack Obama, he served as chairman of the international Fulbright Scholars program, traveling to more than 40 countries to promote peace through the international exchange of artists, scientists, and scholars. In 2005, he received the New York City Mayor’s Award for Arts and Culture for his work to rebuild New York’s downtown arts community after 9/11.
