Biography:
Katherine Grossfeld received her Master of Fine Arts Degree and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The University of Denver, with studies at Studio Art Centers International, Florence, Italy.
Grossfeld has been the recipient of an NC Arts Council’s Artist Support Grant as well as a Regional Artist Project Grant from the United Arts Council of Raleigh, and an Art Appreciation Grant from Nippon Steel USA. She is a juried member of Oil Painters of America, the International Guild of Realism, American Women Artists and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, among other professional organizations. Her work has been juried into their regional, national and international competitions. Twice, Grossfeld’s work has been included in ArtEssex’s Invitational Exhibitions at George Billis Gallery, Westport, CT. Her work was included in a regional survey of contemporary still life organized by Columbus College of Art & Design, entitled The Object Considered: Contemporary Still Life in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. She has been juried into exhibitions in Illinois, Ohio, Colorado, Tennessee, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and online.
Recently, she was awarded an Award of Merit in NOAPS’s 2022 Best of America Exhibition at Wilcox Gallery, Jackson, WY; an Award of Merit in NOAPS’s 2022 Best of America Small Works Exhibition; the Silver Award in Camelback Gallery’s 2022 Still Life International Juried Painting Exhibition; First Place Award by Judge/Juror Dan Beck in Cape Fear Studios’ 2022 National 2D Competition; the Jurors’ Choice award in Maryland Federation of Art’s Small Wonders exhibit, and Honorable Mention award in their Winter Members Show.
Her work has been published in Studio Visit Magazine Volume 49/50. Grossfeld was featured twice in the periodical New American Paintings, and has appeared in American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur and Southwest Art Magazine. An exhibition catalog was produced for American Women Artists’ Breaking Through: The Rise of American Women Artists. An exhibition catalog has been produced for Raleigh Fine Art Society’s North Carolina Artists Exhibition. A companion catalog produced by Columbus College of Art & Design, accompanied The Object Considered: Contemporary Still Life in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. A short story anthology Visions of Life 2, released in 2020, featured her painting, Sparkle, as inspiration for a story. She was featured in the 2005 book Living Artists by Crow Woods Publishing, Chicago.
Grossfeld has served several times as a guest lecturer. She has been interviewed on zoom and on television. Her work has been reviewed in newspapers in Illinois and North Carolina. Grossfeld taught Life Drawing to undergraduates at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and served there on critique panels.
Katherine Grossfeld exhibits nationally and internationally. She has work in Tootsie Roll Industries’ Corporate Art Collection, and her work is held in many private collections. Grossfeld lives in North Carolina with her husband and Golden Retriever.
