Biography:

Michael A. Hirst is the founder of Hirst Law Group in Davis, California. The firm exclusively represents whistleblowers in federal and state programs, such as under the False Claims Act, the SEC, the CFTC, and in employment cases around the country. In addition to its attorneys, Hirst Law Group includes law clerks and a health care fraud auditor and investigator on staff. 

Prior to starting the firm, Mr. Hirst was a Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney, Health Care Fraud Coordinator, Chief of Affirmative Civil Litigation, and Co-Chief of the Civil Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California. In that position, he supervised all civil investigations and cases brought by the U.S. Attorney’s office within the 34 counties in the district. Recognized as a Super Lawyer and included in America’s Top 50 Lawyers, Mr. Hirst has received multiple awards from the government and in private practice. He was lead attorney in United States ex rel. Campbell v. Redding Medical Center, a whistleblower case in which the government obtained the largest recovery against a single hospital in US history.  

A native of Greenwich Village in New York City, Mr. Hirst was a Regents Scholar at Hamilton College and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar at Columbia Law School.
