Statement from the Artist:

My watercolor painting of the iconic lion at the 42nd street Library NYC marked an important turning point in my artistic process. I focused on the strong geometric features and subtle transparent layers to create a three dimensional piece. I loved playing cool against warm to create depth and transparency in my work. This piece led me to paint broader architectural landscapes and to reflect the atmosphere in my painting. My interest in exploring the city through watercolor has never ceased.

The recent watercolor, The Coming Storm, the Williamsburg Bridge, NYC, continues my profound interest in architecture and urban landscapes. This painting incorporates the single structure and atmosphere to create mood. With the storm clouds, I was able to contrast warm and cold to create a dramatic effect. Lessons learned from the earlier painting helped me to layer pigment and create warm and cool contrast in the piece. My love of NYC continues and now I incorporate an emotional experience for the viewer. The Coming Storm allows me to maximize my technical skills as I continue to explore.
